Bloodhound originates from Belgium and France. This dog breed was primarily used as a tracking dog. Even though they are tracking dogs, Bloodhounds didn’t get their name because this breed follows a blood trail as many believe.

The name Bloodhound comes from the word bloodstock which refers to the fact that these dogs were proffered by the aristocracy. The ancestors of Bloodhounds (scent-tracking dogs) date back to Roman Empire, while Bloodhounds go back to the Middle Ages.
